Newt Gingrich has the Republican presidential nomination in the bag — at least according to him.

The ex-House Speaker declared during a pit stop in Iowa on Thursday that “I’m going to be the nominee.”

The confident Gingrich boasted to ABC News, adding “It’s very hard not to look at the recent polls and think that the odds are very high I’m going to be the nominee.”

Indeed, the 68-year-old has been surging.

A new Rasmussen survey shows Gingrich at the top, ahead of rival Mitt Romney by a whopping 21 points — the biggest lead any GOP candidate has held in the race so far.

The Dallas Cowboys will not put in a waiver claim for veteran quarterback Donovan McNabb, who was released by the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday, coach Jason Garrett said.
